Soaking Up the Sun: Navigating the Sizzling Summers
The weather growing up for me is really in two forms, rain or sun, and it depends on where you are in the part of Nigeria where you tend to experience a bit of the cold weather like that of “abroad”.
I am someone who does not like so much cold, but I’m not too fond of heat. I will choose cold over heat anytime, for I have a way to resolve the cold, I will layer up on clothing. No one prepares you for the hot weather when you come to Obodo Oyinbo; all the stories we’ve been told are based on cold and no account of the heat.
Welcome to Summer. Summer unveils its radiant splendour across the European continent as the sun rises higher in the sky and the days lazily into their golden hours.

Knowing what to expect during the scorching summer months is essential. This is the hottest weather I have ever witnessed.
Back home in Nigeria, the hottest is 33 degrees on a crazy hot day. But I am witnessing 41 degrees, and the weather is so humid. When planning for summer, finding somewhere with the ocean and breezy weather is essential.
Here are a few tips to help you survive during the hot summer months:
Hydration is Key: Carry a reusable water bottle and frequently sip to stay refreshed and energized, especially during outdoor adventures. I always carry my ice bottle with me and look for taps to refill it with cold water.

Dress for Comfort: Opt for lightweight, breathable clothing to beat the heat while still looking stylish. This is the period for lots of shorts and light clothes. Hot summer is not the time to be so fashionable.
Sunscreen Savvy: Shield your skin from the sun’s powerful rays with a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Don’t forget to reapply, especially after a dip in the sea or an invigorating hike. Always carry a bottle with you and reapply every two hours.
Timing is Everything: Plan outdoor activities during the cooler hours of early morning or late afternoon to avoid the peak heat of midday.
Local Delights: Indulge in refreshing local cuisines, like gazpacho in Spain or gelato in Italy, to keep cool from the inside out.
During the remaining days of the hot summer, remember that everywhere you plan to go and what time of the day matters most in surviving the heat.
